The Re-Tailored Tux

May 2026

For my final project in concept development class, I was tasked with creating a standout garment in all white fabric. My garment is a recreation of the classic tuxedo into a gown. The bodice is inspired by a tuxedo shirt with covered buttons, and crochet loops keeping them together. Fabric that I have pin tucked myself adorns this garment. The collar along the waist and blazer around the hips come from a 1930s tuxedo pattern. This pattern was manipulated in CLO 3D to be the exact sizes needed to fit the body. The blazer has darts going into the welt pockets on the sides of the dress. Fabric flows out of the blazer, giving the dress a stronger silhouette. The back is then buttoned together with an enlarged bowtie train.
